In our newspaper Martinsburg Journal March 1st Saturday. It said, "The owner of the theater, Steve Tibbs, said the 1916vintage showplaces was built for silent movies and is one of the last remaining examples of art deco in downtown Bluefield. The Matz_Milner is listed in the National Register of Historic Places."
Such a shame someone; maybe the Historical Society didn't take care of it.
No one took care of it, no one wanted the expense, so now it is going to cost upwards of 1 million dollars to raze it. It really is a shame. It was a beautiful place at one point in time. President Herbert Hoover, Joe Lewis, and John L. Lewis (UMWA) all stayed there at one point in time.
